For families living in rural areas, accessing mental health support can be especially challenging. Long travel times, limited public transport and lengthy waiting lists often mean children struggle to get the help they need… even when support is urgently required.
At Wellspring, we’re working to change this by delivering in-school counselling and therapy for children across the Harrogate district, particularly in rural communities where services are harder to reach. By offering therapy within schools, we remove practical barriers and meet children in a place where they already feel familiar and safe.
Our in-school therapy model will help schools identify concerns earlier, and provide children with timely, specialist counselling that can support emotional wellbeing, behaviour and learning.
Demand for this type of support is growing. We currently have schools ready and waiting to offer in-school counselling, but expanding this work depends on additional funding. Donations help us train more counsellors, reduce waiting times and ensure consistent support is available to children living in rural parts of the Harrogate district.
We firmly believe that supporting children at an early stage has long-term benefits far beyond the classroom. By caring for the younger generation when they need help most, we can reduce the number of adults requiring mental health support later in life, easing pressure on the NHS and creating stronger, healthier communities for the future.
Your support can help bring counselling and therapy closer to children across rural Harrogate. If you’d like to support the next generation, you can donate here.
