A new specialist support group is launching here in Harrogate, aiming to help mothers and babies rebuild connection following the devastating experience of pregnancy, neonatal, or infant loss.
Creating Connection After Loss, a 12-week art therapy programme run by Wellspring Therapy & Training, offers a safe and compassionate space for mothers with babies aged 0–18 months to process grief, strengthen bonding, and connect with others who share similar experiences
The loss of a child can cast a long shadow over future pregnancies and early parenting. Many mothers describe feelings of anxiety, isolation, and emotional disconnection, even while caring deeply for their new baby. This programme has been designed to gently address those challenges through creative expression and shared experience.
The group uses art therapy as a non-verbal, supportive way to explore grief and trauma, allowing mothers to express feelings that can be difficult to put into words. Alongside this, sessions focus on strengthening emotional attunement between mother and baby, helping to lay foundations for secure attachment and long-term emotional resilience.
Running over 12 weeks, the programme will begin on Wednesday 25 February 2026, with weekly sessions held from 11:00am to 12:30pm in the Training Room at Wellspring in Starbeck. Group sizes are intentionally small, with up to eight mother-baby pairs, to ensure a calm, supportive environment
As well as supporting individual healing, the group aims to reduce the sense of loneliness many mothers experience after loss by creating meaningful connections with others who understand what they are going through.
Places on the programme are limited, and early referral is recommended. Mothers or professionals wishing to make a referral or enquiry can contact laurad@wellspringtherapy.co.uk or call 01423 881 881.
