“Last Christmas was tough.
Everything seemed to have lost it’s sparkle. I felt sad and couldn’t seem to enjoy anything, even though I tried. It was easier to spend time on my own in my room as I just couldn’t find the words to talk to people, but then my thoughts would get really loud inside my head.
My Mum tried to help, but it seemed like someone had built a brick wall between us that I couldn’t see around. I had a drink to help me feel better about myself, to give me more confidence but really I knew that I needed help, I just didn’t know what.
That was when I came to Wellspring. Because of everything that I’d gone through as a child my confidence was really low so it took a huge leap of faith to come, but I’m so glad I did. Over several months, my counsellor helped me to see and talk about the things that were important to me – somehow the words came.
I felt listened to and understood, and began to feel better about who I am.
Because Wellspring helped with the costs of the sessions it meant that my Mum could pay what she could afford for the time that I needed with my counsellor.
It really helped. I have now finished my counselling and can look after myself better, I don’t drink alcohol as much and can actually think about my future without feeling stressed. I am closer to my Mum too. I still have my bad days, but I’m able to talk about things which really helps.
This Christmas will be different because of Wellspring.”
